A natural, easy and safe liver flush can be made with the ingredients most of us have at home. This information comes from: Levy, Susan L. and Carol Lehr.  Your Body Can Talk, the Art and Application of Clinical Kinesiology. Prescott, Arizona: Hohm Press, 1996.

One effective liver flush involves fasting from solid food and drinking only large quantities of organic apple juice or fresh-pressed apple cider for a period of 3 days.  Women who tend to be hypoglycemic may want to dilute the juice and also eat something light each time the juice is drunk.

Besides flushing out accumulated toxins in the liver, the malic acid found in apple juice helps dissolve or soften any gallstones that may be present in the gallbladder, providing a two-fold benefit.

Anyone with suspected or confirmed gallbladder problems may also use the apple juice for longer than the three-day period.  However, don’t do this without guidance. Try it for three to seven days along with a light diet of organic produce, and the benefits will prove significant.

Another popular liver flush involves juicing half a grapefruit, a whole orange and a half a lemon. Toss the fruit juice into a blender along with six to eight ounces of water.  Add up to two cloves of garlic, or for those who may need to be sociable during the day, a ginger substitute is recommended in place of garlic.  (Quite woody, raw ginger must be cut into small pieces before blending into any mixture.) Then, add a good quality olive oil, such as extra virgin-the purest and least processed.  The goal requires starting with a small amount of oil and working up to near 1/4-1/2 cup by the end of the flush:

1 orange
1/2 grapefruit
1/2 lemon
6-8 oz water
2-4-6 oz pure olive oil (start with 2 oz and increase daily)
2 tablespoons cut raw ginger root or garlic.

Mix all these wonderful ingredients together in the blender until the drink is smooth and frothy. Discard any small fibers from the ginger root that need to be separated.  Drink the entire amount first thing in the morning once a day for seven days. You’ll notice terrific results and obtain a much cleaner liver.

Most people do not encounter significant problems using the liver flush, However, the higher the level of toxicity in the body, the more likely the individual may experience discomfort ranging from mild nausea to gagging or vomiting. These are indicators that the body is toxic and needs some type of cleansing. Individuals who experience problems should discontinue the liver flush and work at a milder type of cleansing such as Dandelion root or Milk thistle combination capsules, tinctures or various detoxifying teas.  If the liver flush is done in conjunction with a fast, be cautious when reintegrating food into your system. Eat only easily digestible foods such as raw or steamed vegetables, a light vegetable soup or fresh juices.  For questions or further guidance concerning detoxification, consult your natural healthcare practitioner.
